Dieting sucks

So I'm a week into what I fondly call The Diet From Hell. This wonderful diet basically involves eating  light meat chicken, shrimp, white fish, non-starchy vegetables, and 2 pieces of fruit (only non-sugary ones) a day. It's a low calorie, low fat, low carb (and low taste) diet. Sure, people post lots of tips online about how to jazz it up but if I'm going to be miserable anyway I don't feel like taking extra time I don't have to cook food that I'll just want to overeat if it actually tastes good.

Weekends for me are the killer for diets, so I knew going into it that I'd have to be extra careful. Friday at worked we had forced socialization (i.e. a potluck) and I had two spoonfuls of guacamole and some chicken meat (it was a make-your-own-fajita thingie). Yes, the guac was high in fat and hence not diet approved but I was freaking starving. After work I jogged 4.5 miles (as I do multiple times a week) to try and combat whatever damage I did. I was good that night and just ate my chicken and spinach (and treated myself to a couple of ice picks - unsweetened iced tea and vodka).

Saturday I still held my own, but I cheated a little worse. I had a few handfuls of trail mix and a nonfat Fage Greek yogurt. Yesterday....ugh. I did well the first part of the day, but my hubby and I decided to have a couple of drinks while we watched Breaking Bad and Big Brother. That led to a 10:30 pm Taco Bell run (it's walking distance from my apartment). Needless to say, I was up a nice 2.5 pounds today courtesy of the Bell (and my bad choices).

I take full responsibilty. This is why people can't stick to diets. But, I just have to forgive myself and move on. I followed this diet back in July and managed to lose (and keep off) 12 pounds. So it really works, if you can make yourself eat the approved foods.

I'm doing it for three weeks and will finish right before my husband's birthday. I'll still have to be really careful (slowly add carbs back in) but I don't have a huge sweet tooth and I didn't find the low carb so bad once I had choices. For example, I ate cheese without crackers and still stabilized.

I just hate that it's come to this....I workout a lot and I usually control food portions. But really, if I'm running 4-6 miles shouldn't I have a little wiggle room to eat a hamburger, bun and all? Not everyday, but maybe once a week. Is that too much for a girl to ask? In my case, yes.
